Description

On January 17, 2018, join the Rustandy Center for Social Sector Innovation and the Institute of Politics to learn how Chicago City Treasurer Kurt Summers is using his role to combat the city’s most pressing social issues, including income inequality, crime, and neighborhood revitalization.

In this Social Impact Leadership Series conversation moderated by Rustandy Center executive director Christina Hachikian, AB ’02, MBA ’07, Summers will share his efforts to bring transparency and accountability into managing the city’s $7 billion investment portfolio. Since assuming the role in 2014, Summers has also worked to empower young people and small business owners and to support programs that promote economic growth and financial education.

Born and raised on Chicago’s South Side, Summers has always had a penchant for public service. He transitioned into the social sector after a successful career in investment management, during which he launched an investment fund to finance women- and minority-led small businesses in low-income neighborhoods at Grosvenor Capital Management.
